I was searching on Skip the Dishes last Saturday for something quick to order for lunch on a day that I just did not feel like cooking. I love finding restaurants that we haven't tried and looking at the menus. After seeing Odd Burgers and realizing it's fully vegetarian and vegan options, we knew we wanted to try it.
We always do Meatless Monday, but we sometimes sprinkle other meatless meals throughout the week. We wanted to see if this would be worth it to add to the rotation of our "usuals" for when we splurge on takeout or delivery.
We had never heard of Odd Burger, so I went down the rabbit hole of research and reviews. Quite frankly, it felt like I'd been living under a rock for never having heard of them. The fully Canadian franchise brings you vegan versions of food that is popular at other fast food restaurants like their Vopper burger. They also have shakes, pizzas, a nicely sized dedicated section for gluten free offerings, wraps, and more.
We ordered the classic burger, onion rings, fries supreme, and Larry also got the creamy orange milkshake. He said it was delicious and I deducted that to be the case since it was gone before I could get a photo. So that was a good start!
The classic burger was okay. It definitely is not the worst vegan patty out there, but it is on the dry side. Once there was a bite with pickle, it was better. I have no doubt that the other offerings might be an improvement due to being more dressed and saucy. Not a bad base, but I think the patty will need those bells and whistles to shine brighter.
I'm a sucker for onion rings, I always have been and I'm a bit of an o-ring snob. I don't get them often, but they are one of life's great pleasures. I hate a bad onion ring, be it tasteless batter, every single one falls right out of the coating on first bite, or they have no crispiness to them. These hit the right marks with a crispy bite, stayed intact, and a flavor bomb. Larry, not being an onion ring connoisseur, also liked them and helped me finish them. That says a lot because he's a fry guy.
Speaking of fries, the Fries Supreme nailed it. If you've ordered them at Taco Bell, this is a legitimately amazing vegan substitute. I did not expect these to be as shockingly close as they are! This was the winner of the day!
Now that we know Odd Burger is nearby, we look forward to trying a few different menu items. I have my eyes on the Vopper, Larry's are on the Famous Burger, and we're both eyeing the Famous Style Fries. Though we've never had In-N-Out, we assume they are similar to the animal style fries.
So happy to have more meatless options and to support a Canadian owned and operated company! Have you tried them before? If so, let me know what you recommend ordering!
