Terre Bleu has been on my "to visit" list for a few years now and I finally got to take it all in! Well, not all. It's a huge place and I just couldn't see it all on such a hot day, because I started suffering from heat exhaustion (I take that very seriously) and cut our visit a little short. Honestly, I had fears that my knee injury would act up and it ended up being my sensitivity to heat. My knee hurt, sure, but it did pretty well walking through the fields. An improvement even from last summer that I will happily pat myself on the back for!
We were there for about two hours, I'd say. We took in two lavender fields, ice cream, visited the horses, posed with the yellow door photo prop, and just had a great time learning about the farm. Terre Bleu Lavender Farm is located in Milton, Ontario and I'd say it is high on many travel lists when you're coming to the Toronto area in the summer. Here are some pictures and information from our colorful day spent in the lavender!
Let me be upfront and say that I received my ticket in an Influenster box, along with the two products you see featured above. You can see my review on the lavender items here. I purchased my husband's ticket online, which I suggest doing to save yourself a little money and time by not buying them at the gate.
When you arrive, they direct you to a tent to watch an intro film and there are also bathrooms nearby. With the film, I learned that Terre Bleu is a family-owned farm owned by a young family that moved from downtown Toronto for their new venture into lavender. The farm opened to the public in 2014 and happens to be the largest in Ontario and spreads over 160 acres. They have various types of lavender, an apiary, a path through an old forest, and several other sights to take in and explore. You can choose to take a guided tour or tour on your own time. With my knee, I'm better at my own pace and I don't feel like I missed out on anything seeing as there is staff on the grounds to answer any questions.
There are honey bees flying all around the lavender. They weren't aggressive in any shape or form. As a matter of fact, a butterfly dived right in my face and caused more ruckus than the bees for me. Haha! Granted, I also have a slight fear of butterflies. I know, I know...strange fear. I think it's the wings that really get me. Anyone else with a fear of butterflies or moths? I don't think I've ever met anyone else that is.
The fields feel like they go on forever. There is one right as you enter the farm and that's where you'll find the store and food bar that serves both lavender lemonade and ice cream. The different types of lavender are labeled and each are slightly different. A few horses were out grazing and taking advantage of the sunshine making the scenery just that much more idyllic. I wouldn't say the smell of lavender was in the air, but you could smell it the closer you got to it.
Did I match my manicure to the scenery? Why yes, yes I did. I wouldn't be me, if I didn't put in a few extra touches. Emphasis on extra. This was a fun outing on a summer day and a nice start to what happened to be a long holiday weekend here in Ontario. Have you been yet? Just looking at all of the photos on Instagram and social media would probably be enough to sway you. Terre Bleu does not disappoint!
