I was sent this shade to test and review and it's not a shade that I probably would have chosen for myself, but let's dive into that a little bit later in the post. Looking through my lipstick collection, I don't think I have a single L'Oreal lipstick unless I'm overlooking one. I mean, I might have had one years and years ago, but I can't think of one. L'Oreal is often a brand I overlook in the makeup aisles except in mascaras- they excel at mascara! Though I've been seeing a lot on the Rouge Signature lip line, so I may have to stop sleeping on them.
Here are my thoughts and swatches on the Colour Riche Matte Lip in Matte-itude!
Onto the formula. I don't love the scent. It's kind of a sweet floral scent what I suppose some would describe as an "old lady perfume" smell. I would not say this is a true matte, as it goes on creamy and still has the slightest of sheen to it. Feels really nice on the lips and I like that it is creamy, so it doesn't cling to lines and dry areas like I often experience with matte formulas.
I did say above that it's not a color that I would have chosen for myself and that is nowhere near a bad thing. Sometimes I get too far into my comfort zone and I need something to zap me out of it! Shades like this were actually once were my comfort zone. I was very into browns in middle school and early high school. I love nude lipsticks...I just don't usually go for those with brown tones. Pink and red tones are usually my jam. This one seems to have more of a gray undertone, setting it apart from every other nude in my collection. I think Matte-itude would be a lovely nude shade on a lot of people.
While I am very much on a liquid lipstick kick right now, I am going to make a mental note to reach for this as fall weather hits! L'Oreal Colour Riche Matte Lipsticks retail for around $10 in CA and under $6 in US, sometimes cheaper depending on sales. There appears to be 12 shades here in Canada and 16(!) in the US. If you find some mattes to be too drying, this might be the perfect formula for you!
