I've done a few beauty calendars in the past. Last year, I had one of The Body Shop's offerings. I love that more brands are offering them now. Such a fun way to try new products! This year I chose the NYX Sugar Trip, because I like that they changed it from the calendar last year that only offered lip products. This time, they offer eyeshadow, blush, highlighter, and lip items. I am already quite familiar with NYX, but I think this is a great way to get a feel for their formulas.
I break my advent posts up into weeks. I know I'm a little behind, but I've been working hard on getting all of the other posts up. And then, I had to wait for weather to cooperate for the pictures. Those unreliable autumn skies! Right now, this calendar is 50% off. So if you don't mind catching up on your days or you're really interested, now is the perfect time to pick this calendar up! The shades inside are all brand new and exclusive to the calendar. Here is the first week.
- Day 1 - Sprinkle Town Highlighter in Pop n' Rock
- Day 2 - Soft Matte Metallic Lip Cream in Nantes
- Day 3 - Liquid Suede in Starstruck
- Day 4 - Sprinkle Town Highlighter in Cinnamon Spice
- Day 5 - Intense Butter Gloss in Sweet Nothing
- Day 6 - Matte Lipstick in Fluff Piece
- Day 7 - Soft Matte Lip Cream in Vienna
Nantes Metallic Lip Cream
I love a pink lip and I sometimes love a metallic lip. I do not love this metallic pink lip. Yes folks, I have finally found a pink that I just don't like. However, I am going to try to layer it on other lipsticks to see if I can find a winning combination. It's not that it is ugly, but it looks horrid on me. Though I probably wouldn't have hesitated wearing it in the 90s when frost was everything.
Starstruck Liquid Suede
Strike up the bells and listen to that hallelujah chorus. This is a beauty of a shade! The formula is a little difficult to work with, but manageable. It sure does stain though, which is great news for its staying power. Easily my favorite shade in the calendar so far!
Sweet Nothing Intense Butter Gloss
This is pretty. They did not just throw the word "intense" out there. This is definitely glossy, but it's also opaque and really easy to apply. It doesn't emphasize lines or dry patches and feels really smooth, not sticky. I've had the original Butter Gloss and like it, but I may have to look more into the Intense shades
Fluff Piece Matte Lipstick
Sound the alarms. We have another pink that I don't like. I know, I'm shocked too. I love my pinks! Maybe it's because it's fall and I see brights like this more suitable for spring and summer. That's just a personal preference. It doesn't look that great on me. Like with Nantes, I'm going to try to find a way to make this work. I tried layering the two of them together and nope, that didn't work. I might try the Sweet Nothing over it next. Seeing them swatched side by side makes me think that could work.
Vienna Soft Matte Lip Cream
This shade reminds me of one of the lipsticks from MAC's Liberty of London collection from 2010 called Blooming Lovely, which I loved. The bonus swatch below is Sweet Nothing and Vienna together. Huge fan. Both are nice on their own, but I really love the look of them layered. I am a big fan of the Soft Matte Lip Cream formula and have been wanting to try more. Happy to add Vienna to the mix!
