I gave this foundation a short review on my Instagram a few weeks ago and I thought I would dig in a little deeper on here, as well as show swatches. You can only fit so much into an Instagram caption. I was also sent the Ellipse Blender to try, so I will also include my thoughts on that. Keep reading to find out more!
The shade that I requested is Shade R210 (Pink Alabaster), which is the lightest shade. With 20 shades, this covers a lot of skin tones. And because it is a sheer formula, I think you can find one that works for you. It is hard to find a foundation for porcelain skin, but this matched fairly well. Because it is so sheer, I did also use my MUFE Full Cover concealer. They say this foundation is buildable, but I didn't have much luck with that.
I thought I would have a lot of luck with the water-based formula, but it accentuated my dry areas. I had to exfoliate and moisturize the heck out of my skin to make even a little difference. Besides being sheer, it also has a very strong perfume smell. Like to the point that I thought I had put on perfume already before I realized it was my face.
For application, I tried the Ellipse Blender. They say to dampen it a bit, so I did. There just isn't a lot of give or bounce and it felt like it was just placing the product from one spot to another. If you are used to a Beauty Blender or the Real Techniques sponges, this is very different. Maybe those who do not have dry skin will fare better with it than I did. For now, I can't find a way to make it work for me.
So I moved on to trying a foundation brush. That made it look streaky. I finally found success with a stippling brush. That made a lot of difference! It still does not look as nice as I would like it to in person, but this is a fabulous foundation for photos and film. I found that I liked it far more in pictures, so I think that is something to note if you're a fellow beauty blogger or perhaps a YouTuber.
It is okay. Just okay. I get about eight hours wear of it before it starts breaking down. It is lightweight on the skin and gives a bit of a glow, which I do like. It's also nice that there is a pump! I won't be using this as my everyday foundation, but I'll reach for it if I know I'll be in front of the camera. I know a lot of people have had success with this foundation. Considering how hard I had to work to find a way to even remotely make it work for me and the strong scent, it's not something I can personally fully recommend.
If you are interested in trying Water Blend Face and Body, it is $43 US/$54 CA for 1.69 fl. oz. at Sephora.
