In this post, I'm reviewing and swatching Bite Beauty's new lip pencils in 020 and 044. Along with those, I'll also have swatches for their Amuse Bouche lipsticks in Honeycomb and Whiskey that go hand-in-hand with the lip pencils. I only had three Bite lipsticks prior to this and all are in the old formula before it was replaced with the Amuse Bouche. So all of these items are new to me and I look forward to sharing my thoughts.
The package not only came with the lip liners and the lipsticks, but also a Sephora Collection Eco Biodegradable Sharpener. I think that's a nice touch, especially for those who received this box and may not have a sharpener in their collection. It's a decent sharpener and gets the job done. It's not my favorite type, as I prefer the ones that have a little attached canister that holds the shavings. I do like the little green pick that gets out any crammed shavings, though. That is extremely helpful.
There are 22 shades of The Lip Pencil that are inspired by natural lip tones. Influenster sent along 020 (beige nude) and 044 (rich mahogany). To go with 020, they sent the Honeycomb Amuse Bouche lipstick which is also described as a beige nude. To go with 044, they sent along Whiskey which is describe as a rich mahogany with red. These are spot-on matches.
For my personal tastes, I do prefer the 020 and Honeycomb pairing. I think 020 is very easy to use. It goes on creamy and blends like a dream and I experience no feathering. Since it is a nude color, I can see it working well with other nudes in my collection like MAC's Velvet Teddy. I'd be very interested in trying other lighter colors of The Lip Pencil. I'm really eyeing some of those pinks!
While 044 and Whiskey are gorgeous, they are definitely out of my comfort zone. That's not a bad thing at all and I am happy to have this shade in my collection now. The 044 goes on just as creamy as the 020, however, I find it more difficult to work with. It feathers on me and it is really hard to smooth out without getting everywhere. I have to do a lot more cleaning up around the edges. And even with the lipstick, I feel like it can come out a little splotchy (you can see it in the swatches). It leaves me wondering if I would have these problems with any of the other darker colors. The pigmentation is superb, though. I bet this color will be absolutely gorgeous on darker skin tones!
These are all really easy to remove and I experience no lip staining. I'd say each offer pretty average wear, around 5 hours. The Amuse Bouche lipstick formula is really nice and on par with the old formula, which I saw nothing wrong with. There's slightly more lipstick shades to choose from than the liner range and there seems to be no real instructions on which lipstick might pair best with each specific liner aside from shade descriptions.
All in all, I think these liners are a great addition to the Bite Beauty line. With the lightweight and pigmented formula, they are a great base for your lip products. And I'm sure it is obvious by the pictures and the sharpener that these are wood and have to be sharpened. They sharpen really well! Let me know if you have tried any of them yet or which Amuse Bouche lipsticks you have and love. I have my eye on Fig!
