I got a gift certificate from friends for my birthday around two years ago. Embarrassingly, I just got around to using it. I used to use gift cards as soon as I got them, but now I find that I like to savor them and use them for those "just right" moments.
And I definitely used this at just the right time! We were driving near Old Firehall Confectionery on our way home from our anniversary trip and took advantage. It is actually in an old fire station and easy to find! Let me just say that my $25 went a long way in the store, as I only went over it by $0.46. I really have to crave sweets to enjoy them as I prefer salty and savory, but I left this place wanting nearly every single thing they offered.
^ This Cookies and Cream cupcake hit the spot. It was more square than round, so it was pretty unique in size.
^ Ah, my pièce de résistance. My weakness. My everything. Macarons are the best! These mini caramel ones were fantastic. But gone too soon.
With my gift card, I was able to get:
cookies and cream cupcake (pictured above)
2 caramel Macarons (pictured above)
chocolate covered white chocolate macadamia nut cookie
individual apple cobbler
individual caramel apple cheesecake
black cherry soda
All of it was delicious! I picked a bunch of winners and will definitely go back this summer to try more items and their ice cream. It's all handmade and some of the items were unbelievably gorgeous to the point that I wouldn't want to eat them and ruin the masterpiece. Plus, the workers were so friendly and helpful. It was a great experience!
If you're in the GTA (General Toronto Area), Unionville is located in Markham. It's a historic little village that is full of quaint gems to explore.

Everything sounds and looks delicious! I really need to visit Toronto and Canada more since we're technically neighbors! The last time I was in Canada I was in Vancouver a few years back and the only other time I've been to Canada was at Niagara Falls when I was a toddler. Your travel posts always make me want to go on a roadtrip north :)
When I saw the title of this post, I was like... wait. I know where this is! I've actually been there before and I love it.
Unionville is so quaint and I love shops like this one. I usually go a few times in the summer, get ice cream or sit on a patio. There's a place just up the street from this one that has great nachos!
