I have not tried anything from Givenchy in a good long while, but the launch of this mascara had my interest. I've done the "swan neck" wand of Lancome's Grandiose mascara and I really love that mascara, so I definitely wondered about the bending wand on Noir Interdit. Is it a gimmick or does it make a difference? Let's find out!
Let's start with the superficial things first! The tube is gorgeous to the point where if you have it and don't display it on your vanity, I will question your choices in life (not really...ok, maybe a little). Gorgeous makeup should be seen and not in a drawer! It has some weight to it and the square base makes it easy to stand, as well as hold onto during application. And a first for me? The actual formula is scented. It smells like a perfume that I have a sample of somewhere, but I can't remember which one. Even with a sensitivity to some scents, this one doesn't bother me before or after applying.
The color is Deep Black, which appears to be the only shade they offer right now. The wand bends at a 90° angle to get in on every lash and build volume and length. The pictures below show you how easy it is to bend the wand by just gently pushing against the tube. The plastic bristles are only on one side. Then, place the wand at the root and zig-zag to the tip. If you need more volume, unbend the wand and do another coat with it straight.
So my thoughts? I think the bending is quite useful (especially if you have shorter lashes) and it really allowed me to get in there and get every lash coated easily. For me, this is definitely a multi-coat mascara. As stated many times, I have fine lashes so it takes effort for me if I want a little " va-va-voom" action. It dries quickly, so I recommend doing one eye at a time if doing a few coats. If it dries too much between coats, I find it clumps on me so I work fast. I get some length and a little volume and a nice color payoff. No problems with flaking or smudging, which is a big two thumbs up!
I'm rather pleased with the results that I get from using this. If you're wanting a slight boost to your length and volume, this might be right for you. It's not extreme, but I think it caters to a bigger crowd that way. I can't say it is a must have, but I do like it and think it is worth a try if you are looking for a new mascara to test.
This is a Sephora exclusive and retails for $29 US/ $38 CA.
