As mentioned in a few previous posts, last week was our wedding anniversary. To celebrate each year, we go somewhere that we have never visited together. It's a lot of fun to explore these new places and enjoy each other and makes our anniversaries that more special. We've gone to Chicago, Montreal, Quebec City, Washington DC, Finger Lakes area in upstate NY, and Bay City in Michigan for our previous anniversary trips. This year, we went to the Lake Muskoka area for a little getaway. We stayed at a place called Touchstone Resort in Bracebridge, ON.
In this post, I'm going to share my review of the resort and random pictures from our trip! It felt like time slowed down during our two nights there and like we were the only two there. Perfection! I found this deal through Living Social and it was a steal of a deal, honestly. If it is offered again, I would recommend it.
^ Lake Muskoka. You can see it is starting to thaw. Gorgeous! I definitely need to go back during warmer months.

^ Touchstone has a nice hot tub and infinity pool (closed for the winter) that overlooks the lake. We took advantage of the hot tub both nights and it was so peaceful. The resort has its own spa called Touch and a restaurant called Taste. I talk about Taste below. Our deal offered a $50 credit toward either Taste or Touch. I didn't take advantage of the spa. It may be surprising, but I am not a
spa type of girl. I am a
do-it-yourself-no-strangers-need-to-touch-me-unless-it's-my-eyebrows
type. :)
^ Our deal also came with a breakfast basket each day of our stay. I had no idea it was going to be two baskets full of muffins, bagels, toast, cereal, granola, yogurt, and more each day! Above is just one of the baskets from the first day. Our room was a "spa room" and had an iHome, kitchenette, DVD player, electric fireplace, ceiling fan, and free wi-fi.
^ We went to Taste on our last day for lunch. I had the chicken club and sweet potato fries. So tasty! The sweet potato fries were possibly the best I have ever had- salted and baked to perfection. The waiter was fantastic and very friendly. We also saw our first ice-fishing hut that was in the middle of the lake. It was very cool to see one in person. With the lake starting to thaw, I hope they were able to retrieve it safely. Seems dangerous to have one out at this point.
^ There was an Inukshuk sculpture on the resort grounds. I always love seeing them in different places around Canadian cities.
^ On our first night, we ventured into the downtown area of Bracebridge. The town is quaint and endearing. They have a cinema that plays three movies at basically one time slot a day. Such a small little town! The town is full of independent little places to eat and shop. We went to the Old Station Restaurant where I tried fried pickles for the first time! These are such a treat in the south and I cannot believe that I had never tried them. Mission accomplished and I have found a new love. Mmmm, fried pickles!
Touchstone Resort treated us well with great customer service. On the first night, our remote-controlled fan did not work. The front desk worker tried a new remote, changed batteries, and called his boss trying to find a solution. Afterward, he offered to move us to a different room. We declined, as we were already partially unpacked. The next night he called us to ask about the fan, which funnily enough turned itself on during the night. They really went the extra mile for us, though!
Our anniversary trip was great and having the whole week to mostly ourselves was amazing. It is crazy to think that we just celebrated seven years of marriage. Sometimes it feels like yesterday!
